December 1 is #GivingTuesday — the global day of giving.
Since 2005 Diaspora Dialogues has supported emerging writers across diverse communities to turn their craft into a career, through mentorship programs, professional development and live events.
This year we’ve seen a mixture of challenges and triumphs, highlighted by a pivot to digital and an innovation in programming to keep things interesting and compelling for both artists and audiences in an over-Zoomed world.
While nothing can replace the electricity of a live encounter with a writer you have admired or would like to know better, we have, along with the rest of the world, made new discoveries and long distance friendships through the medium of online meetings and presentations.
Normally at this time of year, we’d be making plans for a Holiday Mixer, hosted by either DD in our offices or one of our donors in their home. Needless to say, the intimate surroundings will have to be sacrificed this year, but we’re working on a digital literary salon instead.
We’re also very grateful to report that one of our generous patrons has stepped forward with a matching offer for our end of year fundraising campaign. All donations up to $25,000 before December 31, 2020 will be matched, doubling their impact.
Donations from individuals are a critical part of our yearly budget, enabling us to provide the mentorships, professional development and community building programs, as well as our events.
The vast majority of our donations come in November and December. We hope you may be in a position this year to support DD’s work, and help us fully leverage this generous matching pledge.
For being invested with us, and for supporting us along the way, we’d like to say:
Thank you from the small but mighty DD Team!
